Perhaps we need to seek solutions other than those offered by Baldy. :)

Selling direct and crowdfunding are just two of them. Note that I didn't say they were easy solutions. :)

I share your 'pain' - we are far from alone in this; I am a paid subscriber to very few substacks (I would be nice to support many more, but in return, many of those don't read mine let alone subscribe or pay. And, if I did sign up to pay you, it would probably wouldn't go through because I'm almost always over my limit on my credit card. YES, we need to publish/sell more, so we need to write more and write better ...

Hi David, if not aware of them yet, you might want to check out two author groups set up exactly for this reason and do a search to see what kinds of solutions people have used to deal with it -- it's happened to lots of folks and there are appeal routes apparently:
